meg’s top 8: songs to ruminate to post-election

welcome to the first edition of meg’s top 8. i do not envision this series to always end up being a playlist, but i guess that’s what my first top 8 post will be. anyways. after the 2024 presidential election, i had a few songs get stuck in my head, and i’ve decided to share them. so here are my top 8 songs to ruminate to post-election, with some unnecessary commentary from the author.

  1. counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums | a perfect circle

a truly incredible re-imagining of “pet.” the music video is quite graphic, i think. i think the song is actually more impactful on its own, without the video. i have found that i simply cannot listen to this on the subway on the way to work, though, or it will ruin my morning. this is an after work song only.

  1. state of the union | rise against

well, perhaps cliché, but there it is.
  1. american jesus | bad religion

i know there are a lot of other great bad religion songs that could go on this list. but this my blagh so i make the rules and somehow this has just been stuck in my head.
  2. fuck authority | pennywise

same as for #3. actually, same as #2, too.
  3. nazi punks fuck off | dead kennedys

    ditto.
  1. you hear yes | destroy boys, mannequin pussy, scowl

this is a good one. three great bands coming together to make one great song.
  2. the decline | nofx

sometimes i think i could get through running a marathon because when you think about it, the length of running a marathon is equivalent to listening to this song a dozen times over or so.
  3. january 10, 2014 | the world is a beautiful place and i am no longer afraid to die

well! i am not going to explain this one. you can explain it for yourself. this is one of my all-time favorite songs. absolutely beautiful, 10/10, cry evrytim.

so there you have it!
